Unapologetically Millennial

Maybe I’m just getting older. I remember my parents looking at the styles I wore in high school and college with bewilderment, constantly poking fun at the latest trends. Now here I am, in my 30s, asking myself: Have I become them?

The short answer: kind of. But the better answer? I’ve simply grown into my own style, and I’m no longer afraid to stand by it.

At this point in my life, I’ve tried it all. Different cuts, trends, silhouettes, and statement pieces. I've followed the crowd, I’ve dabbled in Gen Z experiments, and I’ve circled back to the pieces that make me feel like me. Through all that trial and error, I’ve learned what flatters my figure, what makes me feel confident, and what truly fits my lifestyle.

So I say this with pride: I am unapologetically millennial.

Yes, I still wear skinny jeans. No, I’m not giving up my side part. And ankle socks? Forever a staple. Not because I’m resistant to change, but because I’ve been around the block. I’ve tried the middle part. I’ve tried the ultra baggy cuts and chunky-soled shoes that are all the rage right now. Listen… I love seeing other people rock them, but they just aren’t for me.

I look back at pictures from my early twenties trying to pull off trends that didn’t suit me and I cringe. Not because I wasn’t cool enough, but because I didn’t know yet that cool isn’t about being current. It’s about being confident.

There’s a kind of quiet power in knowing what you like, and not needing to explain it.

I don’t see it as a rejection of fashion’s evolution. I still adore discovering new styles, spotting up-and-coming brands, and watching trends unfold. What I have learned to do is to filter them through the lens of me. That’s what personal style is all about. It's not being everything, but being consistent in who you are.

So if you see me rocking a blazer, a sleek pair of skinny jeans, and a low bun with a side part? Just know it’s not because I’m stuck in 2014.

It’s because I like how it looks, and that’s enough. Own it.

Are you a fellow unapologetic millennial?

Let me know in the comments, what trend will you never give up?
